Life Insurance Plan Because of e-Krishok

Mohammed Faruk is a farmer from the village of Mamurdhi in Kapasia in the district of Gazipur. He is about 35 years old and he has been a farmer all his life; he farms land which he mostly has inherited from his father and the rest he has bought by himself. His father used to be a businessman, who was able to buy a sizable amount of land that he left to his children. Faruk is not married and he lives in his own homestead with his mother, elder brother and his family. He farms mostly vegetables such as jali kumra, red spinach, sweet pumpkin, potato; he also farms jute as a cash crop. Besides this, he farms rice like most other farmers in his area.

Lately he had been having serious problems with his jute crop. The plants would turn black in the middle of the stalk and then the plant would die. The problem was a very serious one. He was very worried that all of his jute crop would be destroyed. He also had a problem with his potato crop. The potatoes were turning black; stunted in growth and rotting away.
It was with all these problems that Faruk went to see Prince Bhai at the Community Information Center, Akashmela. Faruk went to see Prince Bhai because he knew him for a long time and had over the years come to trust Prince Bhai. After describing his troubles to Prince Bhai, Prince Bhai went to take pictures of the problem, which he then entered into the computerized system over the internet. Once the information was entered into the system, it was forwarded to the agricultural specialist who reviewed the information and forwarded a solution the very next day. This solution was then conveyed to Faruk.
For his problem with his jute crop, he was advised to use a pesticide called Diathen M45. After using this pesticide, his problem was solved and he was able to save the vast majority of his jute crop. He estimates that had he not used the pesticide, then he would have lost half his jute crop. He is hopeful of harvesting about 40 mons of jute this year; which he plans to sell for Tk. 40,000. Had he not used the pesticide, then Faruk estimates that he would have lost over half of his jute crop; and then his lose would been Tk. 20000. For his potatoes, he was advised to use a fertilizer the use of which improved the growth of the potatoes. He had lost some of his crop but fortunately he was able to harvest the vast majority of the crop. He sold his potato harvest for Tk. 30000. He says that had he not approached Akashmela for a solution, then he would have lost nearly half his harvest. So by using the agricultural services of Akashmela, he profited by about Tk. 15000.
His net gain so far has been Tk. 35000 from using the solutions provided by Akashmela.
With his increased profit, Faruk has taken a life insurance plan with National Life Insurance and in the future he is planning to buy more land to farm. Of the services of Akashmela, he says that the services are really very good. He is very satisfied with his outcome, and he feels that more farmers like him will be benefited if they are aware of such services. For himself, he is planning to grow more vegetables such as red spinach, potatoes, pumpkins, onions, pepper; and he plans on using the services of Akashmela to get information about how he should proceed with his plans.
