With Pepper to General Store with e-Krishok

Mazedur Rahman is a simple farmer from the village of Hazrakhana in the district of Jessore. He is 39 years old and he has been a farmer all his life; it is all that he knows; he learnt everything he knew of farming from his father and grandfather. As a farmer, his fortune is tied to the vagaries of farming—when the harvest is good he is happy and content and when the harvest is not good he is constantly worried that his family will go hungry. His family expense is about Tk. 6,500 per month and his family income is about Tk. 200,000 per year.
Mazedur Rahman this year planted pepper plants in the hope that he would have a good harvest. But he was having problems, as is very common. The roots of the pepper plants were rotting and the plant was dying. He was very worried that he would lose his entire pepper crop.

He used to go to the Community Information Centre for Flexi and ring tones, and he got to know that the CIC was also providing agricultural information services through the e-Krishok campaign. So when Mazedur started having problems with his pepper crop, he decided to go to the CIC to get a solution for his problem.
Mazedur was advised to use a medicine called Bendazine on his pepper plants. After using this medicine, the plants were healed. He was able to harvest nearly 96 mons of pepper. From this Mazedur earned over Tk. 150,000. He is very happy with his outcome. He says that his success has started a pepper craze in his village. Everyone wants to earn a profit as he did! He has invested his part of his profit from the pepper harvest in setting up a local general store, from which he earns Tk. 1,500 a month. Mazedur has also used the services of e-Krishok to save his mango trees and once he is able to sell the mangos he expects to earn another Tk. 20,000 a year. Now, Mazedur is a contented and successful farmer. By using the agricultural services of e-Krishok, he has been able to increase his income.
