Dewan Mothaher Hossain hails from the village of Baddha in Manikganj. He is about 45 years old. After marring his wife twenty years ago, he used to work in an office as a paid employee for about ten years. He now has three children, two sons and a daughter. His eldest son studies in Class 9 and the youngest son is in Class 4. And his daughter is a student of Class 6. All of his children go to the local school in his village of Baddha.

When asked why he gave up his job in the office, he replied that he did not see a future for himself in the office. There were limited opportunities for promotions and the salary was not enough to meet the household expenses. He was going through a crisis, not knowing what to do; how was he to look after his young family. After much deliberation, he decided to become a farmer. He had inherited about ten bighas of land from his father, so he decided to put the land to use. His father had not been a farmer himself, but had a fascination and interest in farming all his life. It was a big decision for Mothaher Bhai—after all he had not been a farmer before. Things were not so easy in the beginning; there was a big learning curve. But eventually he got the hang of things and his prospects got better.
However, one thing that always bothered him and held him back was the lack of support provided to farmers like him. Where was he to go, to get information that he needed? Who was to provide him with the essential services that he needed? What was he to do when his crops were being attacked by pests? Before, he would take it as fate if his crops were attacked by pests. He would not be able to do anything about it, and would incur a loss. But now, this is not the case. He now knows that there is a place for him to go to whenever he faces any problems or if he has any question that he needs an answer to. He had saved some rice seeds, which he intended to use to cultivate rice paddy. However, one day, he was out of the home on some business.
